The targeted sample were 300 schools that are to fully
implement CMI for their 1998/99 Secondary 1 classes in accordance with
Government’s advice. 189 schools returned the questionnaires, making
a return rate of 66%. From these 189 schools, 152 Administrator Questionnaires
and 1942 Teacher Questionnaires were collected. However, 17 schools
were identified as having fully implemented CMI long before 1989 (i.e.
they are the traditional Chinese Middle Schools) and most of their content
subject teachers had no experience of teaching in an EMI context. Since
they had no experience of changing MOI, they were excluded from the
sample. Therefore, only 135 Administrator Questionnaires and 1697 Teacher
Questionnaires were considered valid and subject to analysis.
